According to reports, the Jets will interview Rex Ryan and Ron Rivera for the head coach position.

Rivera led the Panthers to 12-4 and 15-1 finishes in 2013 and 2015, respectively, earning him the title of AP NFL Coach of the Year twice. Over the course of 13 seasons with the two clubs, Rivera guided his teams to the playoffs five times. In 2015, he led Carolina to Super Bowl 50 before losing to the Denver Broncos.

At the beginning of his head coaching career, Ryan, who coached the Jets from 2009 to 2014 and spent two seasons coaching the Buffalo Bills, guided the team to two postseason berths. The Jets have the longest active postseason drought in professional sports, having missed the playoffs for 14 years prior to those outings.

The New York Jets are finally beginning to search for a replacement head coach as the regular season draws to a close. In order to replace Robert Saleh, who was let go in October following a 2-3 start, the squad is apparently scheduled to interview two candidates in the upcoming weeks.

According to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero, one of the applicants is Ron Rivera, the former head coach of the Carolina Panthers and Washington Commanders, who is set to interview with the Jets this week. Before being let go in 2023, Rivera led Washington for four years and was the Panthers' coach from 2011 to 2019.

Rex Ryan, the former head coach of the Jets, is the other interviewee. He told 880 AM ESPN New York that he anticipates speaking with the team regarding the vacancy following the conclusion of the regular season.

Next weekend, the Jets, who are 4-12 and have long since been out of the postseason, will play the Miami Dolphins in their season finale. Following Saleh's dismissal, Jeff Ulbrich, the defensive coordinator, assumed the position of temporary head coach.

Since being fired by the Bills in 2016, Ryan has not served as a coach. Instead, he joined ESPN's Sunday NFL Countdown as an analyst in 2017.

Despite sacking Saleh in October, the Jets had not yet interviewed anyone for the vacated coaching position, even though they had conducted interviews to replace general manager Joe Douglas, who was sacked in November. The Jets' failing quarterback, Aaron Rodgers, is just one of several issues the new head coach will have to deal with.
