Here’s a closer look at
the six fastest centuries ever scored in the IPL, including Abhishek Sharma’s
heroics that shook up the league this season.
1. Chris Gayle – 30 Balls (175 vs Pune Warriors India, Bengaluru, 2013)*
No surprise here. The Universe
Boss, Chris Gayle, still holds the record for the fastest century in IPL
history. In a 2013 game at M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Gayle smashed an unbeaten
175* off just 66 balls for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).
He started cautiously but
then unleashed his wrath: 21 runs off Ishwar Pandey, 28 from Mitchell Marsh,
and a 17-ball fifty followed by a 30-ball hundred. By the ninth over, he had
already notched up his century. Gayle’s carnage included 98 runs in boundaries
from his first 103. Oh, and he also picked up two wickets, making it one of the
most memorable IPL performances ever.
2. Yusuf Pathan – 37 Balls (100 vs Mumbai Indians, Brabourne, 2010)
In 2010, Yusuf Pathan
played one of the most explosive innings the IPL had seen till then. Chasing
212 for Rajasthan Royals (RR), Pathan turned the match on its head with
a 37-ball century against Mumbai Indians (MI).
RR needed 143 off the
last 57 balls when Pathan teed off. He hit three sixes in a row off Ali Murtaza
and then took 24 off R Sathish. Though he was run out immediately after
reaching his century, his 100 gave RR a shot at a seemingly impossible chase.
Shane Warne later called it “the best innings I’ve ever seen.”
3. David Miller – 38 Balls (101 vs RCB, Mohali, 2013)*
Known for his finishing
ability, David Miller delivered one of his finest IPL performances in
2013 for Kings XI Punjab (now PBKS). Chasing 191, PBKS were struggling
at 64 for 4 when Miller stepped in.
He took the game away
from RCB with a 38-ball century, hitting 99 runs in the last five overs. He
destroyed RP Singh for 26 runs in a single over and finished the chase with a
majestic six. Miller later credited his father’s words: “If it’s in the V,
it’s in the tree. If it’s in the arc, it’s out of the park.”
4. Travis Head – 39 Balls (102 vs RCB, Bengaluru, 2024)
In IPL 2024, Travis
Head played a blistering innings to help Sunrisers Hyderabad post a
record total of 287—the highest in IPL history. Facing Royal Challengers
Bangalore, Head smashed 102 off just 41 balls.
He brought up his century
in 39 balls, leading SRH to 165 runs by the 13th over. His opening blitz helped
SRH dominate the innings and eventually win the match comfortably. This innings
marked SRH’s second monstrous total of the season, cementing their reputation
as a power-hitting side.
5. Priyansh Arya – 39 Balls (103 vs CSK, Mullanpur, 2025)
The 2025 IPL season
has been the stage for emerging talents, and Priyansh Arya made his
presence known with a 39-ball century against Chennai Super Kings (CSK).
Playing for Punjab Kings, Arya’s hundred was the fastest by an uncapped
Indian and the joint fourth-fastest overall in IPL history.
He began the innings with
a six off the very first ball and continued attacking even as wickets fell
around him. In the 13th over, he punished Matheesha Pathirana for three sixes
and a four to bring up his hundred. Arya's innings was pivotal in PBKS posting
219 and securing a memorable win over CSK.
6. Abhishek Sharma – 40 Balls (141 vs PBKS, Hyderabad, 2025)
And now, the newest
entrant to the fastest IPL hundreds list—Abhishek Sharma. In a
high-scoring thriller at Hyderabad, SRH were tasked with chasing a mammoth 246-run
target set by Punjab Kings.
Opening the innings,
Abhishek was in full flow right from the start, hitting four boundaries in his
first five balls. On 32, he got a lucky break when he was caught at deep point
but was reprieved by a no-ball. He responded by launching the next delivery for
six.
He reached his fifty
in just 19 balls, and his century in 40 balls, outscoring even
Travis Head in their 171-run opening partnership in 12.2 overs. He
eventually finished with a sensational 141 off 55 balls, featuring 14
fours and 10 sixes—the highest score by an Indian in IPL history.
The note has been in his pocket for 6 games 🙂Finally you got itCongratulations Mate 🙌 https://t.co/nKlMrSRfJ2— Travis head (@TravisHead24) April 12, 2025
